I kind of refuse to believe that this isn't some kind of troll secret posted for the lulz, but in the off chance that it's actually an honest, legitimate secret:

Firstly, most of the people I know who LIKE Twilight are well aware of the level of writing it is. The nicest way I can think to put it is "mediocre", though I could be meaner about it if I wanted, as most people who've read the books probably could. I'm of the opinion that if you truly like a fandom or series of books like this, you should at least be able to acknowledge the weaknesses so that you don't come off like a total twink to other people. Stephenie Meyer, like JK Rowling, has never published a book before this series. What I think is that, while that might mean they are bringing in new, creative ideas -- their writing might not be completely fantastic. It is my personal opinion that JKR's narrative style is much more developed and tolerable than Stephenie Meyer's. However, for what it's worth, I think that Twilight has more... IDK, plot coherency, if that makes sense. As much as I love the subplots and minor character storylines in HP, it certainly confuses the reader from the main plot of the stories, and opens up more questions and plot holes than JKR was able to tie up, in the end.

Anyway, this has kind of moved away from my original point of the comment, which was that if you really love the series, love it WITH its weaknesses rather than just denying that they're there. No writer or series is perfect.

My second point was going to be that no matter how much the seventh book in Harry Potter sucked for a portion of the fans, there is no way to even compare the Twilight books to it. JKR has been more successful than any other writer of our generation, and I find it highly unlikely that anyone else will come anywhere close, anytime soon. Twilight will never "kick HP's ass", nor will any other book series, even by more worthy writers with much better storylines and characterizations. Would that Neil Gaiman or Philip Pullman could be as famous and successful as JKR, but even they aren't going to reach that level. Twilight is no different from any other fandom for anything else -- the fact that you're a part of it won't make it bigger or better than any other fandom. Frankly, the HP fandom is a... fucking massive thing and all other fandoms small in comparison. Whether or not it deserves that is irrelevant, because that's just the way it is. Sry.

And my final point: all fandoms of any large size are generally populated with assholes. Especially fandoms that cater to younger fans. When a fandom gets to a certain size, there will quickly be elitists that emerge from the dark recesses of their caves, and they will scorn all the newer, nooblier fans. And the nooblier fans will write fanfictions of themselves inserted into their fandom which will receive flames and other noobly reviews praising them. And batshit crazy BNFs will emerge to spread their insanity across the internets. And people will make secrets bashing rival fandoms and patting themselves on the back for being so clever and amazing and choosing The Right Fantasy Book Series. The HP fandom vs the Twilight fandom? Who cares, they're both full of self-important assholes who suck the fun out of even being a fan by acting as though it's possible for a person to be unworthy of the enjoyment of a fucking book, and choose to make that point to everyone they feel doesn't ~belong~ in a fandom based around sparkling vampires and their romantic interests. Come on.
