wtf

Do people actually pay other people in order to see naked versions of fucking Steven Universe characters? To each their own, but this concepts horrifies me.

I'm mostly just surprised that there are enough people willing to pay for them that it's a thing. I mean, this is the internet, isn't there bound to be enough naked drawings of their favourite SU characters for free?

I mostly feel like people paying for a naked version of some character fanart seems so much like naughty schoolboys from the 80s paying a friend for a peek at their big brothers' titty mags.

Well, okay. I'll continue to sell the nudes to the people who want them.

I'm generally always weirded out by people making money off fanart but maybe copyright laws are just much stricter where I live. Selling fanart is everything from highly discouraged to definitely prohibited around here so I'm always a but uneasy about selling fanart.

Good news is, you don't have to! Other people will, though, so it's not a practice that's going away any time soon, haha.

Found the butthurt nude selling artist.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-13 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
You seem butthurt that other people will pay for things you won't.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-13 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Why on Earth would I be butthurt about making money? One person not buying my shit isn't gonna break me, I've got plenty of people willing to pay.

NSFW content for this show bewilders me. I mean... why would the Gems ever be naked? Aren't their clothes technically part of their bodies? Obviously rule 34 will not be stopped by silly restrictions like that, but these characters just... do not even register in my head as an option for NSFW content.

Since they are officially sexless but also shapeshifters to a certain extent, I always assumed it's like theaAngels and demons in Good Omens: Sexless unless they really want to make an effort. So in theory, yes, human anatomically correct nudes/porn could be a thing for them if they wanted to but in general, there wouldn't be anything to see?

(Anonymous) 2017-04-13 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
Inclined to agree, but then, Rose and Greg made Steven SOMEhow...

(Anonymous) 2017-04-12 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not a fanartist, but I know many who are. Sadly most of the exposure (likes/reblogs, etc) comes from fanart for popular shows like SU. I wouldn't be shocked at the number of artists who sell fanart nudes to be able to actually make decent money in their craft.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-13 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
You already allowed that there are some artists who you WOULD pay. How are you going to encounter them if they don't promote their art? Stop being a dickweed and scroll past.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-13 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
I mean you can either scroll past or unfollow the artist, but if this is something other people are willing to pay for there's not much you can do to stop the artist from promoting it.

This is something I literally never come across and I only follow artists, so maybe you need to be following different people?

I understand asking money for commissions. But drawing two versions and asking money for the a naked version is such a hilariously desperate cash grab. It's the equivalent of putting nearly naked women as thumbnails in youtube videos for views. Or pimping out characters.

Ooh, new business model concept! Only post naked versions for free, let subscribers pay to see clothed versions.

I should write that down!

I thought this practice was weird and tacky until like a week ago, when I saw someone do this for explicit art of my OTP and I was shocked at how tempted I was (I didn't, for various reasons, but it didn't seem unreasonable)
Sex really does sell :\
