I love Luthien/Beren. I didn't appreciate them the first time I read the Silmarillion but they're my favorite canon couple now. I just love that she never picks up a sword, is always kind, and still manages to do all the heavy lifting in the adventure. I love seeing her save Beren over and over again. You can tell how much Tolkien loves his wife, and I think it's super sweet and really great to read.

Same! Luthien is wonderful and so is their relationship.

I totally admit that I don't have a huge fondness for Doriath, but Beren and Lúthien are the exception. Maybe because my antipathy for Doriath is centered on Thingol and Beren and Lúthien's relationship goes up against him.

I really like them too! I've never thought they were boring.

It is part of the Silmarillion (though soon the story of Beren and Luthien will be published as it's own separate book). Tolkien based Luthien off his wife (a very idealized, elf version of her). He very clearly loved his wife a lot.
