as far as I'm concerned classic rock=earlier than 1981. There are a lot of songs much later than that that I like a lot but I wouldn't use the word "classic" to refer to them.

You don't consider groups like Van Halen and Bon Jovi classic rock? Not challenging you! Just most people I know who listen to classic rock would.

That depends on the country as never had this division and 'classic rock' was applied to post-WW2 North American rock n' rollers like Little Richard. Cut off was with Elvis but discluding him. Wikipedia tells me that 'classic rock' in case of rock bands would have 1982 and 1986 as cut off. Bon Jovi had some songs that fit into style but would not say band does write into it if you use hard rock Dean fancies.
