This.

Seriously, there's got to be something worthy of getting him impeached by now, right? I just want him gone as soon as humanly possible.

Plenty worth it, but the Republicans in congress won't proceed on it. Not until he's done half his term at least. If he gets impeached now then Tea Party Republican darling Pence has to count this as his first term, but if its even a day over the half term mark then he gets a full half term from Trump's and gets to run twice on his own for a potential ten years of Pence. Which he will get, because Democrats refuse to stop running away from the heartlands and will not return to the middle states despite that being the only thing which will turn the Popular Vote victory into an Electoral College victory.

HTH.

AYRT

Well, speaking for myself, I was born and raised in the heartland and don't look to be leaving anytime soon, so I'll be glad to try and do my part to help flip things from red to blue where possible (including voting in the 2018 midterms). But yeah, it would definitely be nice to get as much support elsewhere as possible, and encourage the other Democrats/liberals who do live here to continue to be more active, too.

Didn't realize that about Pence, though. Eesh. That's disturbing. I don't know if I'm as confident that he'd get that kind of chance (Indiana's a pretty freaking red state and yet from what I've heard from people who live there they HATE him), but with politics being what it is nowadays, who knows.

Honestly, though, even if the Democrats did everything right from here on out-spending more time in the middle of the country, putting up candidates that really excite the party and get them out in droves, things like that-would it still be enough to combat the fake news and misinformation that runs rampant nowadays? Even the most centrist of positions is considered "far left" to some people out there nowadays, and there are some people that refuse to accept facts even when they're staring them right in the face. So I'm curious what the best way for the Democrats to combat that would be.

It's premature to say Pence will get elected in his own right once, let alone twice, regardless of what the Democrats will or won't do. We have no idea what might happen between now and his hypothetical candidacy, and plenty of things could happen to make him extremely unpopular. His association with Trump is not helping his brand, for starters.

I'm hoping, with all the stuff seemingly in the wings about him and Russia, from several *other* countries, that he'll be a ninety-day wonder.
*everything crossed*

This is my big hope, too. Either that, or the party gets concerned enough about his loose cannon personality/mental state/whatever that they decide he needs to be reined in. The bottom line is that the GOP will have to figure out something eventually, I'd think, 'cause Trump's approval ratings are down in the low/mid 30s now and may continue to keep falling (hell, Trump's recent actions pissed off some of his own base, from what I heard). So it's not exactly like there'd be a whole lot of voters out there who'd be angry if the party started distancing themselves from the guy.

And there's also the fact that GOP politicians are being confronted at town hall meetings and a Republican majority hasn't stopped Congress from being a mess. If the people in that party care at all about their own re-election chances next year, something has to give. So I'll join you in keeping my fingers crossed, just in case.

Of course, if he does get impeached, then we have to deal with Pence, which is just as shitty in its own right, but that's a bridge we can figure out how to cross if/when we get there.

I'm loving how much energy and activism tRump generated, though I wish things didn't have to be *this bad* for people to wake the hell up.

I've got high hopes for the 2018 mid-terms. We just have to keep fighting.

I'm personally not counting on impeachment. It takes way too long, and this Congress, fractured and useless as it is, won't go there. I'm hoping the whole mess is invalidated due to all the Russian bullshite.

And Pence? Fucking nightmare. Another reason to go for jail-time for all and screw impeaching (which could take a year or more). Just call the last election null and void and get them the fuck out. (Not sure where we'd go, leader-wise, from there, but almost anything is better than what we have right now.)

Heh, at this rate, I honestly wouldn't rule out something like this happening. This entire election/presidency has been so weird and people's expectations got flipped all over the place. So hell, maybe we will find ourselves in that situation. It feels like anything's possible now.

And like you, I'd be fine with it if I knew we'd be getting a more stable leader out of it all.

I also like your hopes for 2018, and share them. I just don't know if I can stand waiting that long. It's so close and yet it feels so far away, too.

Yeah, it's damn hard to get through the day to day of his absolutely useless, horrific, and grotesque *bullshite*. But we just gotta keep on keepin' on.
