I've always shipped them at least a little, especially when for the first two episodes I saw, I honestly thought James was a girl. He didn't even wear dresses in either of them, as I recall. In my defense, I had not, up to that point, paid much attention to Pokemon or its fandom, and was pretty new to anime in general and not as familiar with its tropes and character designs as I later became. But I digress.

I still ship them now, but I also kinda like the idea of them being platonic soul mates, too. Either way, they're fabulous together. That said, I must admit that the idea of anime!Jesse as a mother is absolutely terrifying to me. I love the girl, but yikes.
