I feel kind of the opposite. To me, David feels like the only really well-written, interesting character. Everybody else feels kind of phoned in.

I agree about Syd, though.

To me, so much of the show takes place within David's head, filtered through his distorted perception. It makes sense that he feels more real than anyone else.

I suppose you could argue that. Although IMO the characters aren't phoned in/flat in a way that feels deliberate on the part of the writers. It just feels like the writers were so enamoured of their lead character, and so invested in getting him right, that they spent all their mental energy on that, and then slacked way off when it came to the others. Which is something that happens a lot with TV shows that are built around one particular character.

I don't say that as a David hater. I love David's character. I just wish the other characters felt as complex and interesting as he does.

Of course, it's not just the writers' doing. It's also that Dan Stevens is a pretty incredible actor, and IMO several of the other actors just aren't on his level.
