Health thread

Complain or rejoice about health stuff here.

Re: Health thread

I'm a little afraid to go to sleep right now. Last night, I woke with my heart racing so fast it really scared me and I couldn't really go back to sleep anymore for several hours. It was incredibly unpleasant. And now I'm super tired but I'm scared that if I go to sleep, it'll happen again.
This happened once before, several years ago. I'm not sure if I maybe had too much caffeine or if it was the pain medication I took or maybe a mix of both (or something entirely different)...

Could it have been a panic attack?

Re: Health thread

(Anonymous) 2017-04-16 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not entirely sure because I think I would have remembered something about it? But it might be possible.

Re: Health thread

(Anonymous) 2017-04-16 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
That happens to me sometimes. I asked my doctor about it once and she said they were panic attacks caused by too much caffeine and stress. I don't get them as often anymore, but they used to unsettle me for days.

When I had this for the first time I legitimately thought I was going to die. That whole situation didn't exactly improve my state of mind...

Caffiene and pain medication could have something to do with it, like others said it could be stress/panic and the way you eat can effect that.

I have heart palpitations that relate to another issue I have AND my panic attacks and it helps to eat well and try to keep stress down. If it's only happened once before I don't know that you're having any serious issues.

I feel like it's probably a mix of all of it. I'm going to cut back on caffeine now (I usually only drink black tea for caffeine, but it might have been a bit too much of that and a coke that was too much.)

Did you feel like you could move? Years ago I woke up once with a racing heart and couldn't move, and I thought I was having a heart attack. Later on I found I'd had sleep paralysis.

I think I could move, yes. I had a pretty intense tingling in my limbs though, but I guess that was from too much oxygen being pumped through and the adrenaline.

This has happened to me before. I went to the doctor and after loads of tests, was diagnosed with a cardiovascular bigeminy and told that I had to stop drinking so much caffeine. :(

Re: Health thread

(Anonymous) 2017-04-17 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I decided to cut back. I don't usually drink a lot of caffeine, only in the form of black tea, but I had a coke last night as well and that + a fairly high amount of tea that day may have been too much at once...

I'm annoyed because I have all this shit falling apart on my body but every test they do comes back clear and the doctors just like "welp, you seem healthy!"

I guess it's nothing huge, but it's all piling up and I just wish there was a fix. I suppose it could all be due to stress and depression, but I don't feel super stressed or more depressed than normal. So I'm just frustrated.

Re: Health thread

(Anonymous) 2017-04-16 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure I've developed a specific disease because I have all the symptoms but it's also one of those "Welp, there's not much we can do" about it diseases.

Which would be in addition to a few other problems I have that are the "Welp, there's not much we can do" about it variety. Why can't I ever develop something that can be cured?

Also slightly threw out my back today after feeling slightly better after being sick all week. My life is fucked.

Always cold and fatigued. I'm losing hair too (like I can't tie up my hair anymore, because you'll see bald patches), and my IBS keeps getting worse, even though I usually eat properly for it. Every time I go to the doctor, my blood tests come back ok, I'm told I'm a healthy young woman, and it's all in my head. It's making me so fucking depressed.
Also I try exercising, and it doesn't really noticeably help, and sometimes makes me feel even more fatigued.

Doctor visits can honestly be frustrating as hell. I feel you anon.

That's terrible. I'm so sorry. Do you go to a GI specialist? I don't know anything about IBS, but the hair loss is super concerning. What do you have to cut to manage your IBS? Are you vegetarian? I did know someone that was a super picky vegetarian who began losing her hair - it turned out that she had massive deficiencies across the board because she hardly ate any protein (she basically ate only pasta). She was also frequently cold because she had become iron deficient and anemic. All she had to do was diversify her diet a bit and take some vitamins.

I know that's probably not what going on with you, but I do hope it's a simple fix like that.

Re: Health thread

(Anonymous) 2017-04-17 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the support. The IBS diet is a low FODMAP diet, where you cut out foods with "fodmaps" in them, like onions and food with gluten. It's a weird, restricting diet, but I still get to eat a fair amount meat and veggies, so I don't think has to do with protein deficiency.
I am thinking of getting my iron tested again, because I really do think I fit the symptoms of that. It would be so great if that's what could resolve it.

Have you been tested for coeliac disease? The hair loss, fatigue, and IBS-like symptoms are all consistent with that. It wouldn't show in more generalised blood tests either.

I got food poisoning and I'm just. I'm so tired of shitting liquid! I'm trying to drink enough to make up for it but my stomach wants nothing to do with it, and I certainly can't eat anything. I'm so tired of this, I just want to be better already!

Insomnia bleurgh. This is my first day off in a couple of weeks and I just can't settle.

My body is falling apart. I've been diagnosed with a lot of different things but new stuff keeps fucking up. My next battery of tests is throat ones to see why I can't breathe properly and why I keep choking. They tested me for asthma and I don't have that, so must be something else :/
