The trailer and the sneak peaks posted on YouTube make it very obvious that this series is determined to be gritty and realistic and all that jazz. They have Anne running back to the orphanage! Give me a break. I just re-read the book last week on a whim, and the best thing about it is Anne's enduring optimism and escapist imagination. She's determined to make the best of her lot in life, so having her run back to the orphanage just doesn't make any sense. I'll pass.

Loved the 1985 mini-series (even if it took just as many liberties with the source material). Megan & Jonathan will always be my Anne and Gilbert <3

The 1985 miniseries took a few liberties - mostly for the sake of condensing similar characters/storylines, but generally stuck to the spirit of the books, especially the characters. That's why it's THE adaptation, IMO.
