Re: Pet Names in Fandom
There are a few other characters whom I can easily see giving their friends and loved ones goofy pet names, like Vanille from FFXIII, but for most of the characters I enjoy reading about, nickname-ification is a dealbreaker for me. Like, I've seen (and back-buttoned out of) fic where Seven of Nine was genuinely using generic terms of endearment like "darling" and "beloved" and not in a deadpan, sarcastic way, either. It wasn't even meant to be awkward (although it was. So very awkward) and it wasn't remarked upon by any other character in the fic.
Likewise, I can't really see characters like Galadriel or Fran (FFXII) using pet names in any context. It just does not compute for me. Granted, I've never read any fic where either of them did, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was out there.
