David is sort of both super interesting because of his connection with Lenny, (and potential to have that kind of connection with who-knows-what future entities) and flat boring because he's basically a god. This first season was able to use his "mental illness" as a way to limit his powers (ie, when he uses them without realising because he's interacting with someone who isn't there) but unless they do something similar in s2 or find some other way to harness them, he's unstoppable and it's really difficult to keep me interested in a MC who can do whatever he likes.

I like most of the characters also, Syd included, but I also agree with the above comment that no one is really fleshed out or has any backstory. I'm hoping s2 will fix that. I personally think Syd isn't who she appears to be, but it's hard to say due to the nature of the show. It's intentionally misleading so I could just be reading it wrong.
