Honestly, from what I've seen of him he doesn't really come off as having Papyrus's personality (even though that's the entire point). He seems more like "cute, childish, excitable version of Sans." Swap!Papyrus doesn't feel like he's Sans-y in personality either.

Could be the fact it's jarring to see Sans like that? I think Swap!Sans is cute, but only if I view him as a completely separate character from the canon brothers. A lot of AU character's personalities feel very OOC.

It's because the people who swapped don't understand Papyrus or Sans.

it's because he's not papyrus. he's a watered down version of what fans think papyrus is like, thru a sans lens.

I hate all the AU versions people come up with, especially that one. The way people draw him, he looks like he'd be irritating to be around. Hyperactive and childish. Papyrus was childish but in a fun way :P

Also, I dislike fandom's tendency to make Alphys a tiny bean. She always came across as a fairly large woman to me. Not as tall as Undyne maybe, but close. So much Undyne/Alphys fanart has Alphys looking like a literal child.

She is nowhere near Undyne's height.

She's hunched over all the time, if she straightened her back i think she'd be maybe a foot or two shorter than her. People always draw her like she's 3 feet tall.

I always got the impression that the swaps weren't supposed to be perfect 1:1 personality swaps; like, the characters have switched ROLES, but they're still in some manner THEMSELVES.

So while Papyrus is the 'laid back, passive' brother, he's also still Papyrus-y in that he deep down desperately wants to be seen as cool, wants to guard people, and believes in you. Similarly, while Sans is the brasher, excitable brother, he's still starry-eyed and fascinated with space and science, still a goof, and still got issues under the surface. He's playing Papyrus's role, but he's not PAPYRUS.

...Or something like that. IDK, everyone seems to play with it differently. A lot of people seem to go with the CUTE RANDOM HYPER LOL ADVENTURE role for Swap-Sans, which can be REALLY obnoxious.

I agree with this. They aren't meant to be perfect swaps of one another at all. That would make the alternate universes way too boring, IMO.

They kept a few important aspects of them, such as the protectiveness of one another, the over enthusiasm of Pap and US Sans, but allowed them to be their own people.

Also, Yandere US Sans is borderline terrifying, so that might help to scrape off some of the annoyance.
