March for Science?

(Anonymous) 2017-04-19 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Is anyone going? To the DC main event or a satellite march?

I really want to go, and I don't live too terribly far away, but I've left transportation to the last minute and now I'm doubting.

My geology/environmental professor rented a van for herself and her friends and my college is actually sending a bus full of people. Both groups are heading to the Atlanta one.

I'd like to go since I'm in DC. The women's march was so nuts and overwhelmingly packed with people so I'm balancing dreading the intensity of that (not a crowds person) and the fact that this is an issue that's really important to me and should be important to everyone so I should go show my support.

The Tax March was pretty manageable in DC. I accidentally ran in to it and the police seemed to have it super under control and I didn't notice it really.

My guess is that it won't be as massive as the women's march. Hopefully you can go for a bit, maybe gauge the crowd as you approach.

I'm in Richmond, so it's do-able. But I haven't bought any train or bus tickets and the idea of driving myself is nightmare fuel. So I don't know.

The one in Boston is more of a series of smaller marches ending in a rally (it's not a city designed for throngs), but I'll be there.

I might go to the one in the neighboring city. I don't do so well with crowds though.

I want to go, but I don't have anyone to go with. And I'd be too afraid to be in a crowd all by myself. :/

I know a bunch of my college friends are going to the one in NYC. And I'm sure I'll have people at the DC one too.

I would go to a satellite march, but I have a thing I need to go to on Saturday (science-related, actually!) and likely won't be able to make it to my state capital or my city early enough in the afternoon.

I'm in the same boat; I have a choral concert that afternoon (with rehearsal all morning). And the state legislature here is poised to defund my school's pioneering sustainable agriculture center, effectively killing it. I'm guessing agricultural research at Moo U will soon be funded by the Farm Bureau, which will dictate the results it wants in advance, and the state department of agriculture will fix our problem with nitrate export to the Gulf of Mexico by simply declaring that we don't have a problem.

I would like to go to a satellite march, but I have a show to tech for.

Yeah, they've kind of made it inaccessible for many students who have papers, presentations and shows to prepare for.
