Because I want to talk about Doctor Who, but will wait until the thread collapses. So feel free to start a thread about your fandom.

Killing Stalking Season 2!

(Anonymous) 2017-04-20 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
First episode just came out!

I was really curious how it was going to handle the aftermath of the season 1 finale, but while it felt a little wtf it also wasn't particularly surprising. For being such a high-emotion chapter in regards to both characters, I also feel like I can't tell what they're actually thinking. That seems to happen a lot in KS, even with Yoonbum, that he and Sangwoo outwardly act emotional or react to something, but I also feel like there's a wall between me and what's actually going on inside their heads. Plus, virtually everything Yoonbum says out loud to Sangwoo feels unreliable for a number of reasons.

Oh! Thanks for the heads up.

And, after having read it (and sorry if this comes across as too critical, I genuinely like the comic to an extent): I keep getting disappointed to where the history goes.

I guess it could use a bit more... plot? In general? I'm not interested in the sexual component of their relationship at *all*, but I mean, I think I could be if it was the reflection of something else going on in the comic. But as it is, save some exceptions, the "deep character study" vibe just feels very incomplete to me.

On the other hand, IDK what I'm expecting. I guess I kind of fell *very* deeply in love with the concept for a thriller type story, not so much with the execution, but that alone (and the art) is enough to make me stick to the end?

There is still some genuinely good moments, I find, for example I really liked Bum's past from ch 19. I miss the creepy, unsympathetic Bum from the first two chapters, haha. I'm the only person I've met with this opinion (or maybe he is still creepy and unsympathetic but the fandom view of him as this Flawless Woobie has distorted my own picture of him).

Ha, true, and I agree. Though I didn't feel the chapter was particularly, err, sexy, just super crazy. I do think it is running primarily on both characters' disturbed personalities, so the plot isn't necessarily outward. But again, I also feel cut off from what they are actually thinking so I have trouble knowing what their goals and motivations are. I also liked Yoonbum's backstory and I hope more of his past is revealed. I think he's been consistently "creepy" the whole time and unlikable as a human (Though it's hard not to pity him, and he's interesting as a character). Especially after he straight up murdered someone, and his reaction is fear of getting caught, not regret.

I'll talk about Doctor Who. I like Bill, she's a lot cuter and more fun then the previews made her seem.

I didn't like that the Doctor had a picture of River and Amy on his desk, I know he's all but forgot Clara for *plot reasons* but I'm so beyond tired of Moffat not being able to let go of the ponds. River as a character in particular was ruined for me so I get annoyed when she's even mentioned.

He had a picture of Amy? I only saw River and Susan. Bill's hella cute though. I really liked how, well, normal she seems compared to previous companions.

Sorry apparently I somehow confused Amy with Susan, I think my brain did a thing where seeing River made me automatically assume that was Amy. I know the picture was old but for some weird reason I thought the Doctor somehow got a picture of Amy while she's stuck in the past.

Ah, no worries. :) I didn't realize who she was until the camera zoomed in on her picture during the last few minutes of the episode after the Doctor tried to mind wipe Bill.

Nayrt

The first thought that popped into my head was that it was Dodo - I think maybe it was the hat? Then I realized it was Susan, which made a lot more sense.

Yay! I had to go eat dinner, so I couldn't start.

Was that Amy? I thought that was his granddaughter, Susan? I thought that was River and his granddaughter.

I love Bill. Honestly, I loved her. And I saw the episode in the theater, so we got some interview stuff. Moffat said that the stuff he wrote for the character introduction was an exaggeration of Bill's character. So it was never meant to be like that in thee actual episode. Why he thought that would make everyon elove her, I don't know.

I just really love Bill. So much.

Okay oops at me, maybe it was Susan, I just flashed on the black and white photo and assumed it was Amy because Amy was technically stuck in the past and for some reason I thought he got a photo of her or something. IDK obviously I wasn't paying close enough attention.

And yeah Bill was honestly really good in the episode, I almost thought I wouldn't like her in the previews but they completely sold her wrong. Here's hoping for a good seasons (especially since it's 12's last ;_;)

Amy would have been weird anyway since 12 never had any interaction with her. Moffat may sometimes make his companions out to be the most important, but I don't even he'd go that far.

I hope this series is good too. I'm excited. They also showed the first episode of Class at the showing I went to. I was not at all excited about it before, but now I'm interested.

Like I told another anon above I think my brain just went straight to Amy because of the River
association. Also Amy would be the last real companion 12 remembers since Clara got wiped away.

I saw the first 2 episodes of the Class a while back when it aired in the UK, I didn't keep up with it though. I may give it another shot, I'm just not all that interested in teens lol.

I'm not much interested in kids either. The adult alien woman is the most interesting character to me. But I really liked the first episode, so I'm going to give it a try.

Bill is great.

I also really like the Doctor as a weird professor (with an awesome office!)

I only saw photos of River and Susan.

To elaborate on Bill:

I re-watched the first New-Who episode recently and was reminded of how there was some backlash against Rose for how she acted like working in a shop was stupid and beneath her and woe is me, but seemed to have no inclination to change anything in her life before the Doctor came and whisked her away to adventure. So, upon watching the premiere, it struck me that Bill is sort of the opposite - she works serving chips in a university canteen (serving chips in a hospital canteen is the job Rose dispared of having to consider after the store blew up) - but she doesn't seem to give a shit and doesn't seem to link her identity to her job at all, and is generally a more upbeat person.

I saw someone bring up that they didn't like that Bill wasn't going to university on her own and she didn't take classes until the Doctor brought it up, but I honestly haven't thought about it that deeply yet myself.

Bill does seem more upbeat though, I agree. I was kind of sad for her though with the story of her girl crush being taken over and killed.

Weird professor Doctor was awesome! I thought the reason he singled out Bill to tutor her was nice and him taking pictures of her mom for her was so sweet, but it was a little odd that she didn't ask him why his reflection was in the mirror.

Re: Fandom Talk

I totally expected seeing his reflection in the photo would lead to some kind of confrontation... but it never came.
