Random question

If someone is in prison and someone in their immediate family dies, is there any circumstance where they're allowed to attend the funeral?

Fairly sure that's a common reason to get a furlough but IANAL

Depends on tbe state and the prisoner.

This seems like a pretty solid reason for an inmate to get furlough, yeah. But I have no idea if that's realistic, since my only knowledge of furlough in from OITNB.

Sure. They even let IRA terrorists out to attend the funerals of their fellow child-murdering scummy family. With a police escort of course. But if an actual human being has been a decent prisoner, kept their head down, done their porridge without causing too much trouble, then they might get a compassionate unsupervised release, or at worst with an ankle monitor.

It can happen. Depends on the prisoner and the security level of the prison. I imagine things like good behavior and what type of crime they were arrested for come into play.
