Re: Is there a trope you'd like to kill permanently?

That one would be top of my list. In highschool there was this asshole I hated and he hated me and occasionally stupid teachers would declare we'd probably get married after highschool. Sorry, morons, real life is not your slap slap kiss romcom.

Probably second would be Cats Are Jerks. Seriously, all the cat-negative tropes can just fuckoff entirely. They're just less common than the hating someone = sexual attraction trope.

you can blame Walt Disney for Cats Are Jerks. he HATED cats.

In all fairness, the Pinocchio cat was adorable, and there's the Aristocats as well. Post-Walt, the Lion King is probably the most successful Disney movie of all time, and while they aren't housecats per se, still.

Aristocats and Lion King were made after Walt died. Figaro in Pinocchio WAS extremely cute but he certainly wasn't a main character.

I thought Aristocats was the last movie he worked on personally before he died though?

Nope, I think that would be The Jungle Book.

Which had Baghira as the constant butt of every joke. It annoyed me so much.

Ugh, god, tell me about it. In elementary and middle school, there was a boy who bullied me relentlessly and I hated his guts. The number of grown-ass adults who would say "oh, he probably has a crush on you!" Which, if you think about it, is a really, really fucked up thing to say to a girl who isn't even a teenager yet? It's teaching girls at a young age to accept abusive behavior. Maybe he did have a crush on me, but that didn't make the way he treated me okay!

not the person you're replying to but...

I also had a boy in elementary school who bullied me endlessly and one time he literally THREW A FUCKING STAPLER AT MY HEAD. Luckily it just missed me and I wasn't injured, but NONE of the adults took it seriously, just "oh, he has a crush on you!" That kid was a terror and a sociopath in training and I totally wouldn't be at all surprised if he went on to murder people. But yeah, what an awful, fucked up thing to teach a young girl. "Oh, it's totally fine for a guy to throw objects at your head as long as he has a crush on you!" leads to "It's totally fine for your husband to push you down the stairs as long as he says he's sorry later and he claims to love you."

UGH.

oh god. this. I bet those teachers were in fucked up abusive relationships and thought it was okay.

AYRT - This, so much! I don't remember well exactly what my own highschool jerk did, I think it was just general personality clash and we didn't like each other, but constantly telling women that they can't trust their own feelings and also pushing the idea that someone who's nasty to you and makes you feel awful is justified in doing so if they like you is seriously messed up.
