Re: Is there a trope you'd like to kill permanently?

Not quite sure what these are called, but these always bug me whenever I see them.

"A Female and a Male HAVE to be in a romantic relationship, no matter what."

"Female in relationship gets crazy jealous of male partner if he so much as looks at another female"

"A Female and a Male HAVE to be in a romantic relationship, no matter what."

That bothers me too. In the last episode of Broadchurch (I guess this is slightly spoilery? nothing major, but just in case)...

the main female detective character asked the main male character (her partner) to grab a drink at a bar with her, and he said no. I've read several comments along the lines of "haha, it looked like they might get together, but nope, lol!" Since when is getting a drink something you ONLY do on a date? I watch a ton of cop shows and on pretty much all of them people at least occasionally go out for drinks after work with their partners/coworkers and it's almost much never a romantic thing. But it seems like anytime there's a male and female character who have any sort of interaction at all, oh, well, it must be romantic! So annoying.
