Do you regularly wait a year to view something that you care about so much that you would be upset if it was spoiled for you?

If I don't want to be spoiled for something, I see it as soon as possible and avoid fannish spaces in the meantime. Apparently, I'm doing it wrong.

nayrt but... just because I don't rush to view something THE SECOND IT COMES OUT RUN RUN NOW QUICK doesn't mean I don't want to enjoy my viewing experience.
And that's such a stupid stance to take, so what, do you never want to try media that came out before you were born? Do you not want to have the opportunity to experience those things to their fullest?

DA Of course not everyone has the time or money to rush out, but for those people chilling about encountering spoilers is the only unselfish course of action. If I didn't see it when it came out, for whatever reason, I learn to live with spoilers and just catch the movie when I can and enjoy it spoiled or no. That is life, and going through it angry because someone else saw a movie or read a book and wants to talk about it before I managed to and could join in the conversation, well that is no way to live.

dude it's been out for months. i don't even go to movie theaters anymore and i've still seen it already because it's on tv now.

It is NOT on television. I subscribe to every movie channel, Hulu, and Netflix (among others) and movies don't typically even get to the movie channels until about a year after theatrical release (unless it's a real stinker). I'm super busy in December and January, so I didn't get to see Rogue One when it first came out. I am very much looking forward to seeing it.

And it only came out in Redbox a few weeks ago. I know because every time I've tried to rent it, it's been sold out. I had already been spoiled because I had listened to a podcast with one of the movie's characters, so this secret wasn't a revelation for me, but there's no need to lie that it's already so disseminated that everyone should know.

Lets say you're hanging out with a couple friends, and one friend puts on a movie that's been out less than a year that they think you'll love, and you're watching it and enjoying it, then your other friend spoils the ending. you get upset, but they say "if you cared so much you would have seen it when it was in theatres". Not a dick move?

Lol, such a poor analogy. More like: you and two friends are hanging out. You're talking about movies you've seen in the not-too-distant past. Friend A brings up a movie you haven't seen. Friend B excitedly agrees with Friend A's opinion on the movie. Friend A quickly says, "The only part I didn't love about it was [x], but it was still a really good movie." The [X] they mentioned happens to be a spoiler and you happen to have not seen the film yet.

Mildly inconsiderate of your friend to blurt out a spoiler in their excitement? Sure, I guess a little. But also a pretty understandable mistake. And getting all butthurt about it is kind of an overreaction.

Dude, no. Anyone who watched A New Hope has already been spoiled for the deaths in this movie. It's a foregone conclusion.

ok so, not a huge fan of Star Wars and don't particularly care one way or another, but tbh if I'm seeing a prequel to a movie that exists, I wouldn't necessarily go in with the assumption that any character who doesn't appear later will die in the film. There are plenty of excuses they could make up for why the characters don't appear later, and personally, I wouldn't even try too hard anyway, because we KNOW it's a prequel. I wouldn't be expecting to see the characters in later films, so I'd have probably just imagined them being somewhere in the background and gone on with my life.
I really don't see this idea that they all must die if they're not in A New Hope. Unless all of the characters are specifically mentioned as dead in ANH.
