Eh, if I were to get a fandom tattoo and later fall out of love with that fandom, it would still represent something that was an important time in my life.

this

I don't understand the idea that you have to continue to actively be obsessed with something to recognize its importance in your life. Do a lot of people just throw once-important things out the window completely when they move on to the next?

Funny thing, I held the "why would you get a fandom tattoo when you'll almost certainly not be in it forever" attitude while I was still a teenager and in my earliest fandoms. As I've gotten older, my attitude has shifted. Hell, if they were my thing in general, I could imagine getting tattoos for some of my old fandoms even today, long after I've moved on from them. Sure I'm not obsessed anymore, in fact I can go months without so much as thinking of them, but I still feel they're a part of me.

Yep, totally get that. There are some fandoms/franchises I always come back to, even after long breaks (like Pokémon) and others I'm really not active in at all, but feel will always be important to me - Homestuck is a good example. Even stuff I loved as a kid and don't care as much about now are still part of my life in their own way and I still appreciate them!
