Try the manga, OP. The movie didn't really do it for me either, but I adored the manga. Shirow Masamune knows how to draw his cybernoir, yessssss.

(Also, maybe the series Stand Alone Complex? That was a helluva lot more interesting than the movie also, but you'd have to have the time and interest to invest in a full anime to get through that one.)
