Agents of SHIELD (spoilers through current episode)

I guess a lot of people are really liking the Framework arc, and I certainly agree there have been some great moments, but I'm really not feeling it.

There are things like about it -- getting to see Trip again, and Grant Ward as a good guy -- but as a whole, it doesn't feel like there are many stakes. It's not real! Once they all get out of the Framework, the world will be just as it was when they went in! (Minus Mace, *sniff*snifff*)

But mostly, I just don't like the potential for a sea of Fitz angst over the type of man he was in AIDA's world.

Star Wars

I finished reading Thrawn, which I loved. Who's your favorite Star Wars villain? Who's your least favorite?

I will always give points to Tarkin, because a) Peter Cushing, and b) how he's so calmly, casually genocidal. There's no mystical corruption working on him, no Dark Side, someone just gave him the ability to wipe out millions of people in seconds with a word and he went 'I know just what to do with that. Here, let me tidy up a few personal loose ends while I'm at it'. He talks completely casually to Darth Vader, without fear, like an equal, and nobody objects, not even Vader, because Vader might be a rage-and-anguish fueled murder machine, but Tarkin just flat does not give a shit if people die. Unless it helps him, in which case he's mildly pleased about it. He's calmly, casually horrifying, and it's amazing.

My least favourite is probably Jabba, mostly because he's disgusting.

Favorites: Palpatine, Vader, Thrawn, Isard
Least Favorite: Daala, Jabba, C'Boath (I love Zahn, but C'Boath was too insane to be interesting as a villain to me).

I agree about Daala so much. I found her so annoying, the Fate of the Jedi series was a complete wreck.

I have a bit of cognitive dissonance with Tarkin because Peter Cushing seems like such a delightful person in real life. I agree, though. Tarkin is great. He's one of the most interesting characters to me, although Thrawn is my favorite villain.

Favorite: Thrawn, Tarkin, Krennic
Least: Ventress, Bane, Jabba, Hondo (I know he's borderline as a villain but he's annoying)

Stephen King

I've read a few of his books and didn't exactly love them. But I got one of his short story books, and I'm really loving it. Particularly "The Jaunt," which is an awesome scifi horror thing. I would love to see this made into a tv episode of something.

You're tempting me to give his short stories a try, now. Because like you, I was never blown away by his novels, but now I think, maybe it's worth giving the short stories a try.

His short stories and novellas sometimes translate really well to film.

The Shawshank Redemption being the best, in my opinion, followed by Stand by Me (adaptation of The Body).

If you're reading Skeleton Crew, there's a movie of The Mist and they're making a TV series, Gramma was made into a movie (Mercy) and was a Twilight Zone episode, Word Processor of the Gods was an episode of Tales from the Darkside, The Raft was one part of Creepshow 2.

Yeah, the only Stephen King book I've read is Night Shift, his first(?) collection of short stories, and it made me respect him as a horror writer. He has a real facility with the genre, and I think his short stories do a good job of showcasing how many different kinds of horror there are and how many different ways of coming at the genre there are.

Plus, he made the Boogeyman extremely scary, which impressed me as I'd always seen the Boogeyman as almost a joke.

"The Jaunt" is excellent! (You must be reading "Skeleton Crew"!)

Only four episodes left! Synopses for episodes 9 and 10 were released. Anyone have any theories to share?
