Y'know, I would think this, but I've seen some of the stuff that goes around Tumblr.

There's this one post that's a screenshot of search results for a dark-skinned character (don't remember which, not a fandom I'm into), captioned "ugh, why is he fetishized all the time, these fans are so gross." And, like...it was just fanart of the guy standing around. G-rated, shirt on, not sexualized at all.

(Charitable interpretation: the poster found the character unbearably hot, and was projecting that all over any fanart, no matter how generic. Uncharitable interpretation: the poster was hella racist and found a sneaky way to express it.)

Anyway. You see enough of that kind of thing, and it messes with your internal radar of what's actually sensible.
