Man, his cover is probably one of about ten songs that has made me cry - on more than one occasion no less!

It's kind of funny, because the lyrics on their own are just too OTT for me, to the point that I roll my eyes. But when Cash sings them - especially when he gets to those last few lines - it just works and feels truly profound. Like, here is a dude who - through a combination of age and experience - has truly earned the ability to non-pretentiously lament the stuff being lamented in that song.
