Why are you obsessed with YOI being The Most Original Sports Anime Ever? I don't think anyone on the writing team cares as much about OMG!!! BREAKING CLICHES!!!! as you do. A show can still be good if it has some cliche elements, YOI itself had no shortage of other cliche elements lmao it just used them well. And that's what really matters.

I'm not obsessed, nor do I think is the most original sports anime ever.

I just like that it doesn't depend on some specific overused tropes and I hope don't resort to them (and I honestly think they won't). Is that so hard to understand?
