Outlast. You know, there was this one WIP shipping fic that was dealing with the psychological after effects of the main character having been tortured by the dude, but once he managed to free the residents the batshit insane guy (Eddie I think) was put away in a proper hospital where he was being very very heavy rehabilitated. Fandom decided that, no, this character was completely and utterly unredeemable (you'd think with the way people always go 'OH THEY HAD A TRAGIC PAST' they would have been all up on woobie-fying Eddie, because his past was EXTREMELY fucked up) and the main character couldn't have his own psychological shitstorm to go through, and, lawdy, it was ridiculous. The author wasn't trying to glorify the Stockholm in any sort of way, and they got ranoff the internet. They never finished the fic and I'm still hella salty because you could tell a lot of research went into the psychological aspects and the different things as well and it was getting to the good part (I was 75% sure the dude wasn't getting better in any sort of case and was gonna snuff the fuck out the main character. Listen, I love a good mindfuck fic).
