You are not wrong, but you are understating. You get guilt tripped if you ship solavellan. You get guilt tripped if you don't ship solavellan. You get guilt tripped if you romance Dorian as an elf. You get guilt tripped if you don't romance Dorian as an elf. You get guilt tripped if you romance Cullen as a mage. You get guilt tripped if you don't romance Cullen as a mage. Let's not even get into who you're allowed to romance Sera as. And that's just DAI. Other DA games and ME series fandoms are just as bad.

I've played all my Wardens, Hawkes and Inquisitors as different people from each other. Sticking to DAI: my Trevelyan is a deeply religious glory hound; my Cadash a shrewd and selfish career criminal (both of them tend to think of their own gain first, but the former also has great respect and trust for the Chantry, while the later only reveres herself); my Lavellan dislikes all non-elves and feels no guilt if her choices screw them over, but will do anything to help fellow elves, even city ones; my Adaar is a true cinnamon roll (too pure for this world) who honestly tries to make things better for everyone. Personally I find this much more fun than playing a messiah Mary Sue over and over.
