I agree very much. I don't know quite why it all has to be so fucked up with Doctor/Master. I mean, there's the ending the world issue but the Master wasn't always like that, and never really seemed past some level of salvation. He'd still be a bit off base, but I doubt to the point that the Doctor couldn't deal with it.

Heh. I'm such a Master apologist. I just...they were all in love and stuff. And it was sweet and lovely. I want some of that in fic. Not fluff exactly, because that would be weird, but it doesn't have to be quite so mentally destructive. I don't mind BDSM, and yes the Master has a power thing, but...perhaps they could cuddle afterwards and be as totally, obvious in love as they were in canon.

Um. I'm not really in Dr Who fandom, barely at all in Doctor/Master (because I dislike so much of the fic). I needed to voice that.

dwseason4 is good for D/M, but I kind of feel jilted on the Torchwood front with it. best_enemies is definitely good for anti-rape/snuff/whatever, though.

It was good for the post-series three fangirl who was pissed that the Master got the axe! XD But in general, there could be better stuff out there. Just no one's writing it.

Oh, no, I agree. They're not fluffy ... but at the same time, honestly, I really just cannot stand at all all the rape/torture/snuff fic that's seeped into the fandom and made it disgusting. Little bit of BDSM is okay (we're always beating the competition around here, after all!), but there comes a time when enough is enough is enough. Probably about the time that I've read fic 30 that makes fat babies weep big fat tears.

'Cause, hey, I think the point of the Doctor and the Master is that they can't live without each other, not properly. The Master says he wants to destroy the Doctor, but the moment he does, he also destroys himself, because he needs someone to keep him in check, needs someone to stop him and be the antithesis to his evol. I don't think a lot of fans get that sometimes. The Master breaking the Doctor into a million pretty pieces and fucking them into dust ... completely negates his own dependent existence. =/

And, yeah, I'd like to see them cuddle. Not be particularly fluffy, but at least do something less completely entirely batshit insane than the fandom norm. Because, yesssss, they do love each other.

There is some good fic out there, though, you just have to look for it. There's getting to be some huge fandom backlash to the kind of disgusting fic I'm talking about, so maybe there'll be better stuff eventually. Or at least I hope.

I agree with all of this. To me, the dark and grim and snufftastic stuff leaves an incredibly bad taste in my mouth - not because I find it personally squicky (I do, but whatever, one person's squick is another's kink), but because I feel it cheapens the relationship between them into something flat and, frankly, boring.

Also, I second the

best_enemies recommendation, above, because it is made of awesome and doesn't make me feel like I need a shower in a bad way.
