34 - Me too!

37 - I'm with you there. I read slash, I like slash, but I can see my flist slipping away because I mainly read het at the moment. The reason I love slash is because it should be something rare, love against all the odds, love that surmounts all obstacles. People who have found each other and who belong together no matter what sex they are...

My boyfriend hit the nail on the head, when I've mentioned slash in the past he's said 'why does everyone have to be gay? I don't get it!' *uses most flippant slash icon*

53 - I think he's cute too.

72 - Bloody hell! LOL!

"because it should be something rare, love against all the odds, love that surmounts all obstacles. People who have found each other and who belong together no matter what sex they are..."

...lol omg what. do you actually know any real life gay people?

Yes, oh anonymous one, I do.

Also, we're not talking about real life, we're talking about fandom - clearly you confuse the two.

nah, i'm just sick and tired of dumbasses like you trying to push melodrama on my orientation.

Remember, you're not a normal human being, you're gay, so go fucking overcome odds and weep and be special.

pffffft

Actually, as I recall, melodrama comes with just about any romantic relationship, regardless of orientation.

Though I do remember one guy I know who I swore was only gay because it gave him an excuse to Da-rhama-tiz-ah about his love-life every day. But he was the exception....

The reason I love slash is because it should be something rare, love against all the odds, love that surmounts all obstacles.

Uh, seriously? Cause... that's not the way most gay relationships I know work. They work because there are two people who generally like the same gender and how like each other. You know, like most het relationships.

Jesus, I can't believe I've created such a wankfest! I think all love is something rare that surmounts all odds, yes, just like het! Clearly you've had a very easy life. Lucky you.

What I meant was that when you're dealing with a straight character from canon it makes things slightly more difficult...because, y'know, we are talking about fandom here, remember?

Re: 34, 37, 53, 72

[identity profile] ryuutchi.livejournal.com 2008-05-22 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess some of us like more ordinary stuff in our fiction than "surmounting all odds, love for the ages, blahblahblahromanceshit." Because while sometimes it's hard to get past the initial "finding someone" stage, love is about dealing with ordinary obstacles that really aren't all that insurmountable.

I happen to enjoy people have identity crises. Or just having been gay and not saying anything. There are plenty of other ways to deal with it-- this is fandom. We're a creative bunch, and everyone looks for something different in their recreation.

1) This isn't a wankfest, you got two comments. Quit being overreactionary.
2) Assuming something about someone's life because they think you're being kind of dumb is... dumb. Quit being so dumb.

In response to, eh, those two lines people have already quoted for you: lol wtf. One of the annoying things about actually canonical gay in published books and in movies is this view of it is prevalent. Maybe people who are gay or bi would like to see characters that are like them having... pretty normal relationships. No more or less difficult than any relationships, sure, but nothing where SOCIETY IS A COLD AND HEARTLESS PLACE, WOE ARE WE, STRIVING AGAINST ALL ODDS TO STEAL A SECRET MOMENT TOGETHER~ because even in het, that can get lame. I don't see why slash should be "rare," just because it's been unacceptable in society for a long time.

ALSO, LOL THIS IS WANK. Except not.

37. Roffle waffles. It's interesting how flustered people get when the heteronormativity of Western culture is turned on its head. Congratulations, oh oppressed one, you now have an inkling of how it feels to ACTUALLY be gay IRL.
