I always knew that chocolate was a big part of the ice cream industry, but what I see here at icecreamsecrets SCARES me.
Seriously.
I'm not anti-cocoa, I have (a few) kinds of chocolate that I like (tootsie rolls, cocoa krispies), but this whole chocolate-loving phenomenon is extremely SCARY and makes me want to pee my pants in abject fear.

At first I thought, it's great that people are so open-minded, and they have so much fun with wild and CRACKED OUT FLAVORS like chocolate chip or fudge swirl. I mean, how totally wacky and weird! Who ever heard of chocolate in ice cream?? You guys are smokin' crack, I tell ya! Really, it's just fun.

But I feel like most of you         don't even consider vanilla ice cream. The tables have completely turned, and non-chocolate ice creams are the ones that are being looked at strangely, horror of horrors.

(Of course we can't generalize in this and there are still lots of vanilla-based flavors, as a matter of fact most of the popular flavors in the grocery store are vanilla-based, but I love to exaggerate.)

Really, I'm just FURIOUS that there are many extremely good vanilla ice creams which nobody here likes because so many people are focused on chocolate.

And I knew that if they had chocolate sauce on them, many of you would like them too.

Now pardon me while I go board up my freezer, just in case all this frightening chocolate tries to seep out and make me like it in my sleep.

thinly veiled het-bashing with an ice cream metaphor?
What can I say? Some people don't like chocolate.

Hahaha you say this like it's het-bashing to point out that someone's argument is ridiculous.

You and the OP may "not like chocolate," but that doesn't mean you should be telling fandom how to like their ice cream, or their pairings.

Is that what I said? Did I SAY "I hate this flavor/pairing and you should too?" No I did not. Not even a little. Don't be so presumptuous. I just thought the chocolate metaphor was saying that they prefer yaoi because all het is boring, which I think is *also* presumptuous.
To each his own.

All right, I didn't mean to sound like I was presuming. Bad choice to mention you in that sentence and then use "you" in a nonspecific sense, and I apologize. What I meant to say was that even if you and the OP both do not like slash, or whatever, it isn't ANYONE in fandom's right to tell other people how they should be participating in fandom/what to like/what not to like. What's annoying about the OP's secret is that it DOES seem to come across as him/her going "but you guys need to be writing more het and less slash! it makes me angry and disturbs me that you aren't!" That might not be your opinion at all, and I don't have any right to presume either way.

I doubt the example was meaning to say vanilla = boring = het or something, because the same example could have been done with... I don't know, chocolate sauce and caramel sauce, and caramel's not stereotypically "boring." But the point would still stand. The OP is being ridiculous not because they want more het, but because they're saying they want more het and therefore all the people doing all this slash frighten and anger them.

I am sorry for the misunderstanding though.

You know, I have no problem with chocolate - my friends enjoy it, almost everyone I know enjoys it, but I have always prefered vanilla.

To tell the truth, I don't really like chocolate very much, but my friends keep insisting that I eat it and they tell me that vanilla is only for people bigoted against chocolate. I really wish I had more friends who'd eat vanilla ice cream with me, or at least ones who wouldn't keep bothering me to eat the chocolate all the time. Lately, some ice cream shops have even stopped selling vanilla. I can't find the flavor I like and people keep bothering and even pressuring me to eat the flavor that they like, because obviously, chocolate is superior to vanilla.

But, I like vanilla. And it's a little aggravating.

Then there's my cousin who likes strawberry. She can find shops that sell it when she looks really, really hard. My friend who likes wild cherry can't seem to find it at all, but she doesn't complain.

YOU WIN YOU WIN YOU WIN YOU WIN YOU WIN!!!!!!

I love you, I love you so much. Thank you for coming up with a metaphor that actually accurately states why it is that so many people who actually enjoy het more than (and not exclusively to) yaoi feel a little cut-out by there being so much yaoi.

Let there be yaoi. Let there be oodles and oodles of yaoi. But let there be a goodly ammount of vanilla--I mean het--as well, because when you really just want to find that flavor you like, it sucks to only have the other available.

You=made of win. I'd hug you right now.

Hah, your icon is made of win!

Thanks, you made me feel fuzzy. Actually, I'm one of those who prefers "strawberry" most of the time. (Gen). I enjoy hand-cranking my own, homemade strawberry, though it seems the majority isn't interested in eating it.

I'd tell you who I am, but I'm afraid of posting under my own name on this topic and thread. Say anything about yaoi other than "It exists" and wank happens. Personally, I find all these pairing genre wars ridiculous -- people wind up acting like petulant children on "both" sides.
