I guess it's because she was the first. The first queen who came out of the drag closet so to speak and had international success. She was able to build a complete brand around her name/drag persona which Drag Race is only one of many confirmations for.

No other queen before her had that level of success and public acknowledgment before.

That she's polished to the T and very professional doesn't hurt either.

When one looks today it seems like all the others do exactly the same like she does and she's only one of many. But the thing is that the fact that it looks like that this way today is only because she paved the way and build the platform for it. Without her, drag would have been still in the clubs and back alleys and closet without such a wide audience and acceptance.

Are there other queens equally great or even greater in the drag community? - Of course!

Are there other queens with the same success of practically making drag mainstream on their own? - No!

I used to not like Eol and Maeglin. I especially felt bad because there's someone I know who ships hard for Eol/Aredhel, and I just didn't find it romantic at all. But, reading HoME and how much worse Eol was than he ended up being, and also extrapolating who Eol is with regards to being Thingol's kin and the Kinslaying, I find him to be fascinating. Plus, Curufin is an absolute dick to him and exacerbated the situation. IDK, I wouldn't really defend him to someone who didn't like him. I get that. But I do think there's more interesting about him than at first blush.

Likewise, I wonder about Maeglin and if he would've turned evil without being brought before Morgoth. I wonder about him if he'd been raised in Doriath. I find the possible cultural conflict with him to be really interesting. I don't usually like villains at all but I do find these two to be more compelling than any of the Feanorians or Morgoth/Sauron's lot.

Just because the fic's POV characters think it's a utopia, doesn't mean the author does. I have disagreed violently with some of my characters, and haven't always let my disagreement dominate my writing.

Well he's not your atypical villain, in that he influences big powerful baddies and sides with them. By himself he's a bit of a lone wolf though.
