Writing Thread

Whatcha working on FS? I can't stop wanting to write a superhero based story, but I want original powers, not like flying, superstrength, etc. So, if you could have a super power that was out of the ordinary, what would it be?

My first modern AU. I usually hate them. But I want to write a voice kink fic with Mairon talking in a whole bunch of languages, and I just don't think it would work in the canon setting. I am writing Mairon as Melkor's not at all ethical lawyer, though, which is fun.

If I had a power, I'd want it to be mind reading. Honestly, that seems like the most useful power?

For something not usual, not sure. Maybe ability to be in more than one place at once? That would be super useful.

I was going to write about some canceled shows, but today I found out I'm getting laid off in a month, so I kind of want to just watch movies and play games.

I'm so sorry. That sucks.

Thanks. It's one of those things were our company got bought by a big corporation and there was always the little rumblings about the possibility of outsourcing my department, but the longer time went on without it actually happening, I'd started to convince myself it wouldn't.

Fantasy mystery about a detective who can speak to the dead investigating a serial killer while the victims all have various levels of memory about their death and keep arguing over their theories about the suspects.

Thanks! Hopefully the execution is as fun as the idea has been in my head.

You could start by thinking of everyday scenarios/occupations and how you could make that easier with a superpower?

I'm working on an origfic for [community profile] het_bigbang. Shockingly enough for my usual stories, there is actual plot involved.

Oooh, that's a good idea, thank you. :)

Have you considered a stealth character?
Long-distance eavesdropping.
The power to cloud men's minds and not be noticed.
People who can move through solid objects are neat.
Alternatively, someone who can make walls permeable enough to pass through might be interesting.

Ooh, I definitely like the long-distance eavesdropping and clouding peoples' minds could make for a good villain/abuse of power potential too.

Today I've mostly been making super-salty rants about everything.

I also have been plotting out a fic because someone commented on one of my fics saying they really liked it, but they'd kind of hoped B had happened instead of A, and maybe sometime I could write a fic like it with B? And I figure since I also like B and would enjoy writing it, why not?

Replying to myself because eeh, there's no need to be that secretive. Basically h/c is my favorite relaxation writing. Did one with a character getting a cold, and people said they hoped it would turn into something worse like pneumonia. Also fun to write.

I also continue on with my pairing fic that is otherwise unobjectionable, but breaks up the second and third most popular other pairings in the fandom. So I'm always kind of sad it gets so few hits, glad it gets the hits it does, and very amused that Ao3 tells me it's got something like 10 bookmarks, all of them hidden. Writing romance and avoiding romance tropes I hate is surprisingly challenging, but I'm going for mutual crushing hard on the other person and convinced the other can't possibly like you back.

Me and my best friend are doing an experiment this month to have a break from our novels. We are both writing a novelette in each other's genre (I usually write sci-fi, he writes high fantasy with steampunk elements).

So I'm writing a story set during steampunk 1525 where the villain protagonist tries to use black magic to manipulate the outcomes of the Italian Wars. It's more fun than it seems!

That sounds pretty cool!

I love doing experiments like that.

That story sounds badass.

I started writing a one-shot that's just an excuse for porn.

But I really need to work on the next chapter of one of my two multi-chapter fics. And I need to start working on fics for a pairing week coming up in August. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Nothing wrong with writing an excuse for porn! Personally as I've spent more time in fandom I've come to enjoy keeping my smut and my emotional/plotty fic reading apart.

I am not writing anything at the moment but I recently finished an essay relating the American Revolution to the American women's rights movement. I can't seem to write anything fictional lately, don't know why. I have ideas but can't seem to work up the motivation to actually write them out.

Re: Writing Thread

(Anonymous) 2017-05-04 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Good job on the essay! And I hope the fictional motivation comes back for you.

Re: Writing Thread

(Anonymous) 2017-05-04 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Taking my friend's advice and splitting my attention between two projects to see if that will help me at least finish one (stuck on one? Work on the other). So, I'm going back and forth between a continuation fic of questionable taste for an obscure fandom and attempting to resurrect an old original fiction idea that never came to be.

Re: Writing Thread

(Anonymous) 2017-05-04 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Good luck with that! I hope it helps.
