I feel you, OP. My parents were both shitty in their own way and my brother and I never developed any kind of healthy attachment to either of them or each other. The rather impersonal, acquaintance-like relationship I had/have with the three of them has been a lifelong source of grief for me. My BFF is one of 6 kids, all close, and I used to envy her family so much it hurt. If I saw that movie, I'd probably cry too.

I'm so sorry, anon. Keep in mind, family can be anything. I'm sure there are people out there who love and care about you even if you don't share DNA.
