(Anonymous) 2017-05-05 04:13 am (UTC)(link)I have no clue what's going on with Star Wars fandom because I'm not in it, so I'm afraid I really can't comment one way or another on that.
However, while some of the above isn't right, I get the complaints about BBC. It's a dehumanizing fetish that is demonstrably not true. I recently read a study about the "science" behind penis measuring and it pointed out that in all the countries where men had the biggest penis size, it was self reported. The results changed as soon as the data was collected in person by measuring and black men were not shown to be larger.
(https://www.reddit.com/r/sex/comments/666ytk/can_i_vent_for_a_second_about_the_bbc_myth/dggx663/ This Reddit comment mentions the studies.)
So I get it. Like it or not, the whole BBC myth is borne from racism so I can see why people are wary.
Also regarding the whole topping thing, it's fucked up to say Finn can't top, but I personally would caution people about attaching notions of dominance or sexual position because of Finn's race. I know plenty of black bottoms and vers guys as a queer man.
And finally...I guess I would say how big of a problem is this? Because if anything this seems to be more the issue with the Star Wars fandom as a fandom itself rather than there being this general fandom-wide phenomenon of people who police how you write/draw/ship something. I've been in a bunch of fandoms where I shipped interracial couples and I've never had one complaint. I just wrote my smut fics and life went on as normal.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-05 04:18 am (UTC)(link)What I mean by "problem with Star Wars" is that the fandom itself seems kind of...batshit insane,no offense. Between the Space Nazis being a huge juggernaut pairing to the het incest pairing of Kylo/Rey being a huge juggernaut pairing, and ALLLLLL of the wank that goes along with those to, part of me feels like the Finn/Poe thing is more just wankers finding reasons to wank because it's a huge fandom with a ton of people in it and it has a LOT of drama.
I'm sure it happens sometimes in other fandoms, but I don't think there's a huge wave of people who do it. And even if there were, I still don't believe that means we just sit back and shut up about the passive racism (and sometimes not-so-passive racism) that's prevalent in fandom spaces.
I sympathize with people who get caught up in a witch hunt though. That's never right, and I cannot stand people who do that. If things are going to change there has to be an open dialogue with people, not a tarring and feathering.
