I always thought of it as Eowyn grew up in a culture that valued being a warrior and she didn't really see how she could be valued and renowned doing anything else because no one around her seemed to get more respect than those who could fight. She didn't have a lot of alternative role models. That's true of a lot of women in the real world, too, where many things traditionally done mostly by women are seen as less important than a lot of things traditionally done by men. Telling people they should be happy and proud to do something no one values is kind of a dick move if you're not going to acknowledge that context. I like to think that the society of Minas Tirith and whatever place they moved to later placed greater value on things like healing and the arts and sciences.
