Nothing* lives at the south pole, either, even though there's solid ground there.

*Not counting scientists in parkas.

They live around the edges of Antarctica and neighboring islands, which puts them about as far from the south pole as polar bears are from the north pole. They also live in places like South America and New Zealand.
