Re: The kindest thing anyone's done for you
(Anonymous) 2017-05-07 12:18 am (UTC)(link)The first thing that springs to mind is when my parents paid for the down payment when I bought my first new car. I figure this went above and beyond parental duty to raise me, and even beyond something like chipping in for college, since by that point I was 27, had a Real Job (TM) and had long since moved to another state. I would have had a hard time affording the car otherwise, and it's a cheap car! (It's 10 years old now and still runs well so good investment there.) My old car was dying and would not have survived another winter.
The second instance is when my old car broke down in the middle of nowhere. This was in the mid-OOs when cell phones were starting to becoming pretty common but I still didn't have one and I was worried no one would stop to help because they would assume I had already called for help. This elderly couple pulled over, let me use their phone to call a tow truck and my parents, waited with me for the truck, then, because the auto shop was closed by that time, took me to their house and made me a sandwich while we waited for my dad to drive the 2.5 hours down to pick me up.
