What are your local movie theaters like?
(Anonymous) 2017-05-07 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)Re: What are your local movie theaters like?
We have four - two AMCs (formerly Carmikes) - they just changed the name and apparently put in new food in the first-run Carmike. I haven't been since Feb so I can't confirm.
The other one is one inside the mall, and apparently the only thing that changed is the ticket stubs are longer. Big deal.
Regal is the one I prefer to go to - I have their reward card and like stacking up points. It's not comfortable seating, but it has the better preshows.
Go a little further and you get to The Grand - it's really nice, has IMAX, 3D, and DBOX (which is surprisingly fun if you feel like splurging 20$ for a ticket). I love walking around and taking pictures of posters and standees, and taking free tiny movie posters.
I think my favorite theater i've been to so far was the AMC at Disney Springs ( formerly Downtown Disney) - it has BALCONY seating! Also, there's a BEAUTIFUL AMC that's EGYPTIAN THEMED in like...Pennsylvania.
Re: What are your local movie theaters like?
There's this one theatre about a couple of hours away, with leather seats that electronically recline, and there is plenty of arm room with the cup holders. I gladly pay more if I'm the area (shopping).
Re: What are your local movie theaters like?
The one we see movies at is awesome. They have reserved seating with recliners that have warming seats. Depending on which theater room, you can get food served to your seat. Or you can go to the diner and just bring your food in when you eat (all seats have little tables that come out).
Prices range from $12 to $22.
Re: What are your local movie theaters like?
UA Galaxy is the closest to me, but they have the seats that are leather and reclining and you have to decide your seat when you purchase the ticket, so you are reserving it. The problem I have with the seats is that I'm short so it's a little hop to get all the way back into the seat. It is nice to recline though. But then I do hope that the seats get washed down every night...
I've been to a Flix House, further away, but it can be distracting to see in the corner of your eye a worker serving food to nearby patron, constant movement back and forth (but I'm probably bitter since I asked for a glass of water and never got it).
Re: What are your local movie theaters like?
The local Empire cinema is... not completely awful but the seats are not very comfortable for long films and I don't know what they put into their soda but it made me and my bf need to pee really badly by the end of the film. The plus is though that the tickets are a lot cheaper than the Vue and Odeon.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-07 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)I honestly feel like most of the movie theaters in America fall along the same general lines. You have fairly standardized movie theater chains around the country, and then in the larger cities or college towns you get the same basic variations on themes for the independent ones - you have the casual ones that serve beer, your Alama Drafthouses, and you have the ones that show documentaries and French movies, or whatever.
There's a movie theater near where my family is that shows Asian action movies sometimes, which is kinda cool. It's actually kind of a crappy theater but that adds to the experience in a way. Can't really get there regularly anymore though.
Re: What are your local movie theaters like?
There are several 'grand screens', where you have seats like big recliners, with footrests that come up and such, there are several 'regular' screens, with normal (but cushy) seats, and there is the 21+ screen, with a bar outside and the reclining seats and it's own little concession area.
It's all about three years old, and is delightful. The last theater here had seats so old and hard, your butt would fall asleep in fifteen minutes, and it was ancient.
Also - retro night every Thursday, only five bucks. They showed 'Jaws' and 'The Sound of Music', stuff like that, and are currently showing all the Harry Potter movies in order.

Three of the AMC theaters by me are stadium seating, they're all newer and are between $10-15 depending on time of day/which day for prices.
One of the AMC theaters is a dine in theater with full recliner and bar service and full restaurant. I don't do that one often, the tickets are $20 plus I always get food at that one.
The one I go to the most often is a Cinepolis and it's just basic seats, but it's $6 on Tuesday which is why I go there.
Then occasionally I'll head in to NYC and those are typically stadium seating and range from $15-20.
The AMC in Times Square and Lincoln Square are full IMAX theaters, so I've seen Star Wars at both of those and well worth the $30 ticket price (when you include all those fees and reserved seating)

(Anonymous) 2017-05-07 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)Do cinemas in America start the film at the advertised time or do they start the trailers then? It used to be the films started at that time here but it changed about ten years ago. Now they play an assortment of adverts (phones, television shows, shops, etc) leading up to the start time, at the start time they run cinema info and reminders about putting phones on silent, and then fifteen to twenty minutes of trailers. Then there is the rating info and finally they play the film after all of that. A trip to the cinema takes approximately forever.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-08 12:12 am (UTC)(link)Regular tickets are $9.75, matinees are $6.75.
For the person downthread who asked, they have a couple of ads and then 20 minutes or so worth of previews at the movie "start time." They run a trivia-and-ad thing on a loop beforehand.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-08 03:15 am (UTC)(link)City-wide, we have the big multiplexes with stadium seating, the artsy theaters, and the crumbling third-run theaters, all of which have their charms.
Re: What are your local movie theaters like?
(Anonymous) 2017-05-08 04:50 am (UTC)(link)There is a local second run place called Omni Cinemas. The prices are $2 before 6 PM, $3 after, and 3D movies are $1 extra. The 2D movie tickets are $1.50 all day on Mondays. The same guy runs the theater, an arcade, and a mini golf course all in the same shopping center.
Small bags of popcorn and a small drink are $1.50 each with a refill for $0.50. A large popcorn, two large drinks, and one refill per item is $14. A kid's combo with a tray containing popcorn, a kid's drink, and a snack sized piece of candy is $4.50. They also serve nachos and cheese dip, hot dogs, and pizza.
They just installed new leather seats that rock and fixed the screens. The theater has been there for a long time. I remember seeing The Rocketeer there when I was four years old.
They have advertisements in the local free magazine with coupons for buy one get one free movie tickets, discounts on tokens at the arcade, and discounts on a game of mini golf.
