I think there's a difference between 'following internet drama' and the sadistic hate cults that develop on KiwiFarms targeting specific people, frequently going after them for some perceived deviancy (with a dash of moral self-righteousness added every time they occasionally get someone who's actually a sex abuser etc.) and just generally existing to erase every last speck of empathy. They turn real people into the villains of narratives.

But the line has proven dreadfully thin. Any pattern of behaviour fundamentally based around stalking unsympathetic online strangers is only a few steps away from morphing into social sadism and being flooded with hateful little creatures, so maybe it can just die. We don't actually fundamentally NEED real people's strife to be our personal entertainment.
