I'm bi, and I definitely wasn't thrilled by the news when it broke. It just felt like too little too late, especially because it wasn't even canon. (Subtext, yes; confirmed by word of God, yes; but not canon.) Plus a bunch of other criticisms, but those took longer to percolate. My annoyance at the lack of canonicity was immediate.

Same here. I felt like if it had really mattered, she could have found a way to bring it up in the books. I want creators to have the balls to outright unequivocally state that yes, a character is gay in the canon itself rather than an interview after the fact that a lot of people may never even see.

IDK, what situation could she have written for Harry, a student, to learn about his headmasters sexuality?

You didn't learn much about the other teachers at Hogwarts in that regard. I just don't see where she could have slipped that in, that is organic and does the character justice.

IDK man maybe at some point during the times we find out about Dumbledore's past work with Grindelwald and the details about his siblings? The "Aberforth fucks goats" joke was pretty inorganically brought up and we still got that.

You were in the vast minority then, but go ahead and pat yourself on the back for being ahead of your time.

I mean, this big ol' lesbian got it in the books right away and I was in my teens and still becoming aware of my sexuality, so.

It wouldn't be very good subtext if no one could see it. Still doesn't make it canon.
