I never envisioned Hermione as anyone and possibly because my idea changed a lot as brain could not decide. As people mentioned - JKR did possibly mean her as white. However, context of her tweet is a bit bigger - she was responding to racist media circus over this which merged with post-Brexit vote racism escalation. Scotland voted no and she done same. Plus British theatre casting is different than film one and yep, she did have a lot of deciding power which was unprecedented then.

Anyway ... yeah, Dumbledore was just her putting it in bold as yup, 7th book was clear but oh boy, did re-read books up to 5 this year - Dumbledore makes a lot of gay jokes I would make and made. If you watch Random Acts bit where Sir Patrick Stewart speaks about being gay much later - it is similar narration.

JKR is also not a bastion of progress and fails outside comfort zone and British context - she did a book on racial and class battle in small British town rather well but then written about Native Americans and her text was a huge caricature.
