I had no exposure to this book until I picked it up to read to my class of 2 year olds. It was kind of hilarious because as I read I realized he was ripping himself apart and giving his friends part of his body, and I slowed down towards the end because the farther you go the worse it gets and it's just so damn sad that he has nothing left by the end and all of his friends are manipulative assholes. But, you know, class full of children that don't really understand the story so I couldn't exactly say any of this. I just finished the book and then never chose that one again to read.
