13. ... no bishie fanart plz.

14. So you're a F!S mod, then.

15. You are the pure snow.

Being impure's much more fun!

18. THIRTEEN IS NOT A CAMERON CLONE

MY GOD

GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD

I'M SORRY, BUT THAT CLAIM REALLY GRINDS MY GEARS

24. I was shipping Caspian/Peter all throughout that movie. I hear it's not in the books, but still. So much fun.

28. Image

29. Ditto, but I'm seventeen. And, through many references understood by none of my friends, I know more about sex than they do, though they have gotten farther with a guy.

30. OH MY GOD

I KNEW HE LOOKED FAMILIAR

32. Yeah, but the thing is, most of the fangirls who read it don't see it, or see the obsession as Edward being protective and caring and wanting someone to be like that. I'm pretty sure there's a psychological term for it.

34. RULE THIRTY-FOUR I WANT JEFFERSON/HAMILTON

37. Like it's burning?

Well. That changes something. How does one ship anything when it burns? Wouldn't that hurt? Semantics, semantics...

39. OMG VOLDEMORT

49. I suppose "go to Hell" would be a compliment, then?

70. What's so bad about Catholicism? Or, for that matter, religion--assuming one is not an insane zealot shoving their religion into every available orifice?

I WANT JEFFERSON/HAMILTON TOO WHERE IS IT WHERE IS IT. *SOB*

28. I do believe a hi5 is in order.

*high five* God, I have been waiting to use that macro forever.

And the timing was just so perfect. I think you're sort of my hero.

15 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-05-24 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Your comment is exactly what I mean. :/

Is it so wrong to not like slash or incest?

Fandom seems to think so.

Re: 15 OP

[identity profile] pavonine.livejournal.com 2008-05-24 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
IT IS HORRIBLY, HORRIBLY not wrong. Just that most people do like it, and fandom is where those people share their slash loot, since there's not a lot of real slash out there (not touching the incest button). Fandom was kind of spawned because Satan needed a new hobby a lot of people wanted to share their love of canon and speculated fanon, and romantic relationships are a huge part of that.

15 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-05-24 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Then can you see how I feel very outnumbered and almost bullied? Because I'm one of the tiny minority who not only dislikes those kinds of things, but am really only in fandom to talk about the shows and which het pairings I like.

It's terribly frustrating and irritating.

Re: 15 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-05-24 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I know how you feel. It feels like if you object to incest or anything at all you're automatically a close minded bigot who needs to shut up.

15 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-05-24 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
:/

Yet outside of fandom, I'm actually quite open-minded.

Shows how much people take fandom as SRS BIZNIS, huh?

There is a difference between "don't care for personally" and "object to". If you object to my reading and writing, say Wincest, then you do, in fact, need to shut up.

If you just don't like it, and prefer het, I could hardly care less.

Re: 15 OP

[identity profile] pavonine.livejournal.com 2008-05-24 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Sorry you got stuck being a minority. Although, there are a lot of people who like het and slash--I myself am one such person (e.g., shipping Spuffy and Willow/Tara in BtVS fandom).

It's just, protesting what a lot of people like really never got anyone very far. Fandom welcomes everyone, as long as everyone likes/doesn't mind the same thing.

70. Catholics usually get a special kind of hate from Protestant and other Christian sects because of the pope who "HOMG IS TOTALLY CONTROLLING THEM AND IS EEEEVIL!" and they deviated from the canon of a collection of texts written by various authors with various view points compiled into one book. I think the best example of this hate and why is a Chick Tract about Catholicism that I couldn't even get through because of the immense "WTF FAIL!" of it.

/major

[identity profile] pavonine.livejournal.com 2008-05-24 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh. This pope's okay. Lovely shoes; Carrie Bradshaw would approve. However, I can't name a Catholic who follows his dictums verbatim (no condoms unless you have AIDS? BLASPHEMY!). His influence on many of today's younger Catholics is not as grand and powerful as some would say it is.

[identity profile] megkips.livejournal.com 2008-05-25 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
I have a few issues with the current pope mainly because his idea that bringing the Latin mass back = GREATEST IDEA EVAR!!!11 is pretty much the exact opposite and he seems a little bit too pre Vatican II for my tastes, but it really could have been worse. Actually, the really bad bit of the Latin Mass idea was failing to update it, but I digress.

Also, your icon = <3.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-05-25 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Chick Tracts are all immense fail. Honestly, I never feel ashamed of my faith at all...until those guys show up. Then it's like being a sane Trekkie standing next to the 300lb guy dressed as Troi trying to recite his Klingon Love Poetry and going, "Um.... I'm not with this guy."

I'd almost like to read it through. I don't think I've ever been able to finish a Chick Tract, though.

The funny thing about the deviation in text is that when the church was being formed, the Old Testament was taken from the current Torah. By the time Protestantism came around, the Torah had been recompiled and books had been ommitted for whatever reason, and they took the new Torah. Nothin' wrong with either.

But we get the book of Tobit, which is just a fun adventure story that's actually pretty hilarious and cool. So, y'know...

[identity profile] megkips.livejournal.com 2008-05-25 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. I recall discussing something similar to that in class, although I believe that the main situation was that the Protestants saw that books like Tobit were considered non-canonical by Jews and saw no reason to include the books like the Catholics did, thust joining the Jews in making the text apocryaphal.

Goddamn, I'm slacking on my Protestant history.

[identity profile] alouette-sparra.livejournal.com 2008-05-25 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
The books that were taken out, if I am recalling correctly in my less than sober state, were ones that supported Jesus as being the Saviour and Messaih. They weer removed when Christuanty was really beginning to grow in popularity. Naturlly, by the time the Protestand Reformation came around, those bookes were no longer part of the Torah, and as such I have had many Protestandts tell me that Catholics have a Bible that is not true to the actual Jewish scripture.

Of course not. Those books got took out becaus they supported Christyanity, and why would you want to have texts suporting a group you think is wrong?

Re: 32

What makes me really wonder is if the author knows? I mean, I would think she does... but then sometimes the way it's all phrased makes me question whether she means to present it that way or not.
