08. Are people still going on about Sheppard's hair? Of all the things that fail on a t.v show as full of fail as that shit SGA is, people pick Shep's hair?

24. Slightly unrelated but, Susan, :( sometimes I forget why I hate Narnia so much and then I think about her and I remember.

08. Yay, someone else who thinks SGA is nowhere near as fanfuckingtastic as its fandom thinks it is!

OMG, I had to stop watching, I couldn't take it anymore, it's such a shittastic show. But try telling that to the fandom, and tptb act like they're gifted and SGA is the BEST and so groundbreaking.

[identity profile] graziaplena.livejournal.com 2008-05-25 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I totally agree. I only started watching the show because the fandom was so big and enthusiastic, and then when I saw the source material, I was like, "............what." The characters were either made of cardboard or really irritating, and the plots went nowhere. All the fuss for this? Whatever.

ETA: There's some great fanfic for it, though. I won't deny that.

The first and second season were good, but then it got really bad, them getting rid of my favorite character really helped me quit it, after she left I had no reason left to watch.

And they brought in Carter and Keller and I couldn't stand either of them, it's as if tptb pushed every one of my buttons.

Some of the fic was really good, I loved the AUs, SGA was great material for AUs.

Eh, to each their own. Also? I thought the point of the secret was to hint at his gayness, not insult the lack of following regs on a show where people walk through a wormhole to greet aliens who speak English...

Just sayin'.

Re: 08. Also, GIP

[identity profile] luisa-f.livejournal.com 2008-05-24 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know, people always gave Shep so much grief about what a soulless bastard he was, and how could such a disturbed and inadequate man be allowed to carry a weapon, and let's not forget the part about him being the worst kind of man-whore to have ever existed.

And also that he should be court martialed and executed, for a fandom so obsessed with McShep the Shep hatred was so strong. Makes me doubt if they're really talking about him being gay, or if it's just your regular Shep hater.

Re: 08. Also, GIP

[identity profile] darsynia.livejournal.com 2008-05-25 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
... Um, ok. I don't have any idea what on earth you're talking about, but remind me never to visit whatever part of fandom you heard that stuff from.

GateWorld, I got on several flamewars with the Shep!haters, in addition to being into McShep I was a Sheppard/Weir shipper and let me tell you, between the McSheps and the S/W shippers I had my fill of GW to last me a lifetime.

You'd believe that people who shipped Sheppard so fiercely would at least like him a little.

I haven't been to that place since I stopped watching the show, and my blood pressure thanks me for that, lol.

Ah. Yep, never been there. Won't be going. Really sorry to hear that! The only anti-Shep stuff I've seen was in an 'unpopular fannish opinion' post that was incredibly polite on both sides, as well as respectful. LJ ftw.

If you like John and haven't seen season four, I thought it was really great. Then again, I don't really watch the show with an eye toward picking up on anything that isn't politically correct, so maybe that's why I enjoy it so much?

I just pretend the last book didn't exist. Though there's a wonderful crossover between Narnia and HDM on Yuletide which also made me happy.

Re: 08, 24

[identity profile] luisa-f.livejournal.com 2008-05-25 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
HDM => His Dark Materials? and if so do you have a link?

I try not to think of her fate, it makes me want to cry, I know it's silly being affected like that by a book, but she was my favorite character from those books and the way she was treated really ruined them for me.

Seriously, not being able to be in Narnia with her siblings just because she was a girly girl? It's so unfair.

Re: 08, 24

[identity profile] alouette-sparra.livejournal.com 2008-05-25 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
From what I understood in reading the books again recently, the problem wasn't so mach that she was a girly girl. The problem was that she was dismissing Aslan and Narnia as being silly children's games and no longer really believed in either. However, her siblings did, so they got to go to Narnia.

The part that got me is that her parents and siblings DIED. I can only imagine how that affected her, but ti couldn't have been good for her mental health.

Neil Gaiman has a wonderful story about what happened to Susan after the books (and takes up most of the points you made). It also features Aslan/Jadis.

It took me a day, but I got it: The Ivory Horn. (http://www.yuletidetreasure.org/archive/40/theivory.html) It's beautiful. It made me feel better, anyway.

Lewis would've thought redemption could happen at any time, though-- I do hold out a little hope that he thought she would find the light again later in her life.
