Maybe not completely silence, (although I'm thinking that banning books from schools because they contain magic or whatever sorta does fall into that category) but they're still pretty big on ruining people's lives. Not the church per se, but it's followers. I'm just of lawsuits concerning gay (parenting) rights/marriage whathaveyou.

I meant ruining (or attempting to ruin) the lives of critics in retaliation for being criticized, not ruing the lives of their members; I'm sure that plenty of organizations, both religious and secular, do the later.

Tttthhhhaaat's always been more of a Protestant thing.(In fact, it's pretty much always a Fundie thing . . .)

Catholics, since they stopped with the torture/etc of Inquisition fame, have always been more in favor of ignoring things they don't like. Exhibit A: Excommunication.
