Favorite Villains

(Anonymous) 2017-05-15 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Who are your favorites and why are they favorites?

Re: Favorite Villains

(Anonymous) 2017-05-15 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Starscream. Always Starscream. He is just so damn fascinating and entertaining to watch. Even in the Bayverse movies he was the most interesting robot on the screen. I don't know why he is so watchable, across all his iterations, but he is. In the 1980s movie, it was Starscream's death in it that hit me harder that Optimus'. I mean I was a kid, but I was already well aware of the hero's tendency to death to pass the torch. I was brought up on tales of heroic nonsense and failure. But Starscream's death? The campy comic relief villain? I was fully expecting Galvatron to just show up and smack him around a few times, then business as normal. Alas they wanted to sell some new Cyclonus toys...

Scar is my favorite animated villain. I just love how deliciously evil he is.

My favorite live action villain Commodus in Gladiator. He such a creepy and disturbing person. Truly horrifying.

My favorite book villain is Manx in NOS4A2. Can't say too much without spoiling it, but his motivations are great.

Favorite video game villain is Ganondorf. Such an iconic asshole.

Palpatine - I actually hate him but that's why I like him. He's just so good at being terrible, and it's a thing of beauty to watch him manipulating everyone right under their noses and having a blast doing it.

Maleficent - I love her in the cartoon because she's a force of nature. She's what I think of when I think of the fey. I love what she wanted to do to Phillip to circumvent the Good Fairies messing with her curse.

Loki/Kylo Ren - I like villains with a potential for redemption.

David Xanatos - I love competency, and I also love that he doesn't take things personally. He learns from failure rather than becoming vindictive.

Azula. Such a great female villain. She is such a terrible person and yet truely sympathetic.

All of Korra's villains, maybe except her uncle Unalaq lol. Especially Zaheer and the Red Lotus. Who are interesting, dangerous and ready to die for the cause.

Comic!Magneto: granted the writers can completely fuck up sometimes but for the most part he's been one of the most complex and compelling villains they've ever done. I can understand why he has the motivations that he does even if I think he does go way too far with his actions.

Comic!Loki: Movie Loki is a lot of fun and Hiddles does well with what he's given but for me the absolute dickbaggery that was comic!Loki is still my fave version of him. Like he was so downright vicious and awful and the worst unreliable narrator in existence, his scheming was fun to watch too.

Cersei from GoT: She's an absolutely awful human being but my god do I love watching her cause havoc and generally be The Worst person ever. I wish an absolutely horrible death on her but I'm gonna enjoy watching her fuck things up until that point.

Maleficent: This one is mostly because she turns into a giant fuck-off dragon and I like dragons, but I also just like her aesthetic and general evil swagger, even if she isn't terribly complex. She's fun.

Jean Descole from the Professor Layton series. Very gray, guilty as hell, but you could tell there was just something inside him that just broke. And despite practically dressing like a freaking girl, the dude has style.

Magneto is an good one cause he's only a small perspective flip away from being the greatest hero.

Haninibal Lecter is an interesting one cause there's no reason you should be routing for him, but I can't help it.

Sephiroth is a good one because of the feeling of overwhelming unbearable godhood he gives off.

What do you consider young? What do you consider old? What do you consider middle aged, and where does "elderly" start?

How old are you, for reference?

Re: Age

Under 30 is young. Under 18 is a child. 30-45 is standard adult. Middle age starts at 45. Elderly is at 65.

Involving actors in fandom

(Anonymous) 2017-05-16 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
My friend's just posted a video she took at some kind of fan convention thing of her telling an actor about the existence of fanfiction of him and another dude. He (understandably) seemed pretty uncomfortable about it and just...why? Why would you do that?!

What is wrong with people?! I just seriously don't get that impulse at all...whether it's telling them at conventions, or presenting them with porny fanart as I've heard of in the past or tweeting them links to fic or whatever, I just...don't understand what makes someone think that's an okay thing to do?

(And no I'm not going to say who it is, sorry Anti-Vague Anon, but I know she sometimes posts here and would definitely figure it out if I said...she might anyway, but hopefully not.)

What super weird coincidences have you experienced?

[personal profile] bur 2017-05-16 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Brought on to my ridiculously weird set of coincidences today.

1. Find a guy working at the Apple store named Bismarck. (which was weird on many different levels)
2. Receive email notifying me that Extra Credits has posted a YouTube video about the Bismarck.
3. Get in my Mom's car, she turns it on, and her 50s music station starts playing Sink the Bismarck.

All this, within five hours.

...am I about to time-travel die on a German battleship, guys?
