Yeah, it was pretty clear early on that this show was going to veer from the 'Psycho' lore to some degree, and the last couple seasons in particular especially established that. Like you said, their relationship had issues, to be sure, but I think Farmiga did a great job of making Norma sympathetic and vulnerable in her own right, And I also think the show did a good job of showing how even the best intentions to help a deeply troubled and unstable person don't always pan out well, too.

That finale made me cry. It was so bittersweet and heartbreaking.
