Eeh, not a meltdown, but most people I know thought it was pretty eeh since she's a Born Sexy Yesterday teenager and he's 70 year old and it felt like they were really playing up the father/daughter thing just before this.

Ashi's age is never stated so IDK why when people are allowed to make their own conclusions they're assuming she's a teenager.

Probably because they showed her growing up as a child and then becoming current age/model without ever showing a model in-between the two. So it's pretty reasonable to assume she's a teenager.

And I'm saying this as someone who loves age gap pairings and ships tons of them, this is a serious age gap pair with heavy daddy/daughter undertones and I'd rank it up there with the Hiccup fucking Toothless secret below it in terms of controversial kinkyness. So I don't know why anyone would clutch their pearls over some people not liking that kink. Plus there's the fact Samurai Jack was never heavy on the relationship stuff, at all, so it's coming out of left field for people who grew up with the original.

They actually did, I can't find it now but because of the controversy someone went back and rewatched her growing up montage. They have her as a baby being born, a little kid training, and she's a teenager when her mom is stepping on her foot as she's dangling over a cliff. She's smaller than she is in her final design and still has a bigger head.

This is just my opinion but Jack was never emotionally or mentally stable enough to be a father figure to Ashi when they first met. He's spent the last 50 years basically stagnating, he didn't grow or mature in any real way besides becoming more cynical (the fact that after he got his sword back he became just as much of a dork as Ashi is is proof of this). Ashi's journey was inspired by Jack, but she ultimately made it on her own. The only time he "advises" her on anything is to show her how Aku fucked up the world, but then he told her there's no hope in trying to fight it. Ashi came to the conclusion that there IS hope in fighting it on her own.

She's kind of a perfect example of it though? The point is not that she isn't kickass, the point is that she's been entirely sheltered from romance and society until she meets The Guy. Frequently the BSY character is an awesome fighter and very skilled at martial arts.
