Yeah, I agree. My feeling, as a general rule of thumb, is that in cases where someone's actually doing something wrong that could be described as "cultural appropriation, you don't need the term "cultural appropriation" because you can just say "Gee, that's kinda racist." If just straight up calling it racist feels like a leap or a stretch or an overreaction or like it just doesn't fit the situation, then pick your battles and let cultures do the mixey, changey, spready thing it's totally natural for them to do.

Also, I feel like a lot of people who are intense about calling out "cultural appropriation" have this weird perspective where there's no middle ground between reverence/deference and belittlement/disrespect/mockery. So to them, when someone goes, "Hey, that's pretty cool, I think I'll try it myself," it registers as disrespectful by way of not being deferential/reverential enough.
