I always disagree with that too. Like my opinion isn't valid because I'm not part of that culture? Really? Cause I betcha by golly wow I could find someone from any culture who voices my opinion and then, what, I just keep deferring to them? Well this dude says it's OK, so go argue with him and leave me alone. Nah, that's one small step above "Some of my best friends are black and they don't think I'm a racist".

Also, I think it's generally less about my own culture, and more about my opinion that usually prompts the "It's not your culture so keep schtum" approach. Like if my opinion was instead "I think Chinese character tattoos should be fround upon when worn by anyone not Chinese" I think I'd get told "Well you're a white guy, your opinion is meaningless" a lot less than I currently do.
