I find it odd that buying bulk liquor and beer to possibly consume alone at home was okay, but buying a drink to consume with food in a publc social situation was not.

Gotta remember, Southern morals are all about performance. You're expected to have your butt in a pew every Sunday, no matter how religious you are the rest of the time. Consuming alcohol shamefully at home where no one can see is entirely different from consuming it in public where the whole world can stare at you! It's like you don't realize how problematic you're being! Like you think this is normal and acceptable!

It's like how if officials actually gave a shit about teen sex/pregnancy rates they'd study which prevention methods (comprehensive fact-based education and access to contraceptives) actually work the best. Instead they care about performative morality (abstinence only) so they look pure while making the problem worse.
